Clogs on Blogs

Fall 2009. Paris. The spring/summer 2010 Chanel show. Lights dim. Music starts. The first model steps out and begins her dreamy nonchalant strut though the fabulous faux Chanel barn. A quiet murmur sweeps through the hushed crowd.
“…are those… is that… did he… I don’t know if I…”
Karl Lagerfeld certainly gave bloggers foot for thought when he debuted the Chanel high heeled clog.
Post show, bloggers scrambled to text and tweet all about the curious accessory. The blogosphere exploded. We love/we hate tweets raced around the globe, hot on the heels of the wooden shoes. Are they ugly? Do we love them? They look so… BIG.
It’s almost spring now, and we bloggers are still talking. We still can’t make up our minds. The stores will soon be brimming with interpretations of Karl’s pure genius, and the retro shoe we claimed was Soooo Not Hot many moons ago will actualize in physical form. It’s not just an idea anymore, it’s officially back from the past. We must decide.
Do we love them, do we hate them? We don’t know. We’ll all probably be wearing them- even if only in the privacy of our own closets. You can’t expect us to keep our word when it comes to shoes.
So to all of us that tossed our heavy wooden soles out the door post 90’s, when the stiletto put it’s foot down about tacky, inelegant shoes, I say enough. What goes around comes around, and I’ll agree with what my mother says; “Watch what you say, or Karma will kick you in the a**”. It’s just too bad this time around Karma’s wearing clogs.
