Cloud Free Agent Espresso Bar

It’s a mouthful of a name but it’s also a mindful of an idea and it’s here in Toronto, on Queen West, just across the street from CAMH.

 We walked in the door one early morning, after having dodged a few of the walking wounded from the area, for a meeting with one of our favourite people from local marketing and promotions gurus The Hive and were immediately greeted by a warm atmosphere, great coffee and one Peter Coish (another local luminary of the creative agency type) who gave us the deal on this swanky little coffee shop.

First off, this idea was launched late 2009 but, us being so self absorbed in what we’re doing at Youthography, we had somehow missed the requisite media buzz that accompanied the start of this spot. Duh.

Anyway, this espresso bar, as strong as its coffee is and as fine as the chorizo omelet we were treated to was, is basically a bit of a front for a virtual interactive agency. As Peter put it to us, and I’m paraphrasing here, the recession kicked the living shit out of our fine industry and, in turn, put a ton of great strategic thinkers, brand builders, creative geniuses and the like all out on the metaphysical street and so he saw an opportunity here to create a way for these good folks to work together from time to time on some cool projects regardless of where these people are in the world. It’s tight. It’s smart. It’s efficient. It suits the time and it smells so good. And so it goes.

There’s a bunch of these virtual agencies popping up all over the place and this is our Toronto-based answer to the trend and it’s a damn fine addition to the list for sure. Coish’s accomplished rep, the interesting angle to the concept, and, yeah, the great coffee and scones is what is already helping this agency get on pitch lists.

The place is fully equipped with a smart and fancy basement meeting room jacked up on webcam and plasma that serves as a boardroom, client hang and rentable meeting room.

We liked.
