Another year, another Nerd Fair. The 3 day fanboy bonanza known as Fan Expo wrapped this weekend in Toronto to record support, showing attendance numbers edging to 50,000. Hardly the magnitude of the mighty Comic-Cons of the world – but as Canada’s premiere pop culture (more)

D-Box is now in Canada, in an Etobicoke theatre. The Cineplex Odeon Queensway Cinemas in Etobicoke, Ontario is outfitted with only a few chairs at the top of the theatre, but if they provide the experience it promises it could change (and likely increase the price point) of the movie-going experience. The chair moves and shakes with the plot of the story and the camera angle allowing for an unmatched, realistic and immersive experience – which could forever change a viewer’s level of emotional involvement with a movie.

People want more from their move-going experience, right?! Now, like so many other things, interactive and true-to-life visceral experiences are those that really matter. Engage my senses! ..as many as you can….right?!

Is a poly-sensorial experience truly the goal? Do we want to go that far? …I may have avoided Slum Dog Millionaire if this was the case.

Apparently, once you go D-BOX, you never go back. I’m willing to give it a try, even after seeing the corporate video.

Oh, and D-Box is not only for theatres; chairs for gaming and home theatres are also offered. Gamers and “boys with toys” get ready for a serious new world. And you best be serious because the Gamming chairs retail for $15,000 (no word on the price of the chairs for your living room).
